Marymoor Park

One of the most notable amenities at Marymoor Park is the off-leash dog exercise area that covers 40 acres - bigger than many neighborhood parks. Dogs can run free in this area while under voice control. The off-leash area has spawned a non-profit group of dog owners called SODA (Serve Our Dog Areas) who are dedicated to its preservation. Another off-leash dog area can be found at Luther Burbank Park on Mercer Island.

Magnuson Park

Description: Magnuson is the only off-leash area in Seattle with beach access (dogs are not allowed on beaches elsewhere within the city limits). As such, the beach, though small, is often packed with dogs fetching balls in the water. Magnuson's beach area was renovated in 2004 and re-opened January 8, 2005. You'll now find a much larger usable area, nice landscaping, and dry picnic bench areas. Pebble landscaping along the water's edge now keep your feet dry and help with erosion. Hey, do us a favor and don't toss those pebbles out into the water for your dog -- those rocks are the beach! Upon arriving at the park you'll find a large playfield with a shelter and running water (with built-in drainage so you can even rinse your dog off, although Droopy would never hear of such a thing). A one-mile path leads to the beach access on Lake Washington (freshwater, so your doggie doesn't come home smelling like salty seaweed). The long path gives both you and your dog exercise with a change of scenery. It is wheelchair accessible. As part of the voter-approved Pro-Parks Levy, $700,000 was allocated to the renovation of Magnuson. The park was redesigned partly in response to wetland concerns. It remains one of the largest off-leash areas in Seattle.

Downsides: Off-leash, it's NOT A LOOP so you have to travel the same path back, unless of course, you'd like to explore the rest of beautiful Magnuson Park ON-leash.

Directions: Located at the old Sandpoint Naval Station, approximately 75th and Sandpoint Way. Turn into the guardhouse entrance and follow the road straight to the playground. The new off-leash area has a separate parking area behind and to the left of the playground.
